If you or the person you know has moderate to severe disability as a result of acquired brain injury it is likely that some kind of support will be needed (beyond the family's resources) for personal care, community access, therapy, counselling, anger management, activities of daily living, supported accommodation etc. Disability SA is the agency funded by the SA Government to assist individuals with these needs. This organisation is one of five agencies set up by the South Australian Government to assist people who have a disability. There are offices in the metropolitan area and regional country areas. The main management office is at Gilles Plains. Disability SA works with the person with abi and/or their family to assess their support needs and develop a support plan. The Service Coordinators may provide some information or make a referral to another organisation. Many people are now being referred to Disability SA in the early stages after injury or diagnosis. However, anyone can ring to get information and advice from the management or regional offices. |
