All participants are involved in individual skills development sessions and small and large group activities, logic/problem solving tasks, creative story writing, daily living skills training, literacy/numeracy tasks, social functions and guest speakers. Volunteers from the general community, provide crucial services and support to individual therapy and group activities. The program cannot operate without volunteers. As part of a multi-skilled team, opportunities are provided for volunteers to be involved in many varied tasks, some of which include:- • Working as instructors/facilitators to guide participants during implementation of therapy programs. • Developing personal existing skills, learning new skills and perhaps discovering some hidden talents. • Assistance in the preparation of activity programs and modifying tasks as required enabling each participant's involvement. • Utilising strategies to effectively deal with challenging behaviours as necessary. • Assisting participants during meals and providing some personal care support. • Assisting with physical transfers from wheelchairs to physiotherapy plinths, before and after therapy programs. • Recording each day, with charts/guidelines provided, the details of each participant's performance and progress. • Meeting new people and developing positive, professional and supportive working relationships with everyone at the program.
